I do acknowledge that they do on occasion eat animal matter. They do it for the same reasons that deer will kill and eat the heads of baby birds/rabbits. They are missing some key mineral in their body. It’s not a natural part of their diet, it will do in a pinch but shouldn’t have to in captivity.

Although, in captivity, Green iguanas will eat meat if presented with it, excessive consumption of animal protein results in severe kidney problems and possible premature death
@AgressiveInliners you went a little too far in your claim. they are technically folivores, yes, but are known to supplement their diet with protein rich insects on occasion which does help in their growth. they just shouldn’t be fed a lot of protein.

They are strict vegetarians! They should NOT eat animal / insects of any kind. Yes they may eat an insect or so in the wild but it is usually when the bug is on the food they are trying to eat.
At no part in the Green Iguana’s life should they be fed insects or anything other than veggies.

i think i cought a baby iguana. I want to keep it and have it as a pet but im not sure if its an iguana
and its small. I found it (i live in miami fl, today is cold) in the cold and could barely walk it couldnt even try to run away so i cought it and have it in the warmth. I would like to know how little baby iguanas look like to see if it matches the descriptions. And also what should i feed it?
